Skills development is a key focus of the Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW), which committed to creating upskilling and reskilling opportunities and pathways for graduates of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). In a recent partnership between IFOW and Momentum Health, four (4) recent graduates were offered an internship opportunity that provided valuable workplace exposure aligned with their qualifications. This experience enabled them to enhance their work-readiness and explore career pathways.
Momentum Health, a major player in South Africa’s life insurance and integrated financial services sectors, has built a strong reputation since its establishment in 1996. The company has grown to provide services spanning medical aid, car and home insurance, life insurance and investments. The organisation is known for investing in talent and innovation.
Four Contact Centre Management graduates (pictured below) were selected to participate in the Momentum Call Centre management internship programme, which ran from July 2024 to April 2025. The internship provided hands-on, industry-relevant experience and exposure to a high-performance work environment.

At the conclusion of their internship, the four graduates were offered permanent positions at Momentum Health. Their successful transition from interns to full-time employees not only reflects their personal commitment and professionalism but also underscores the value of structured industry-academic partnerships. Notably, feedback from the Momentum Health representatives highlighted that the TUT graduates demonstrated a high level of maturity and were able to quickly acquire the required, setting them apart in a competitive employment landscape. These graduates now form part of the 9.8% of South Africa’s employed graduates.
This successful partnership between IFOW and Momentum Health exemplifies how targeted, collaborative internship programmes can lead to meaningful employment outcomes. It also highlights the readiness and potential of South African graduates when given the right support and exposure.
IFOW invites other industry leaders to join hands with us in shaping the future of work—by opening doors to experiential learning and bridging the gap between academia and industry. Together, we can drive impact, create opportunity, and unlock the potential of the next generation of professionals.
