On 13 March 2024, the TUT Institute for the Future of Work (IFOW), in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA), successfully hosted a dynamic hybrid seminar aimed at enlightening attendees on the evolving landscape of employment and the potential created by emerging technologies.
The seminar attracted a diverse audience including higher education students, graduates, unemployed youth, and career advisors, and the hybrid format allowed for both in-person and virtual attendance, enabling a broader reach and engagement. The seminar was a testament to the growing interest in understanding and adapting to the changing landscape of employment and entrepreneurship.
In addition to representatives from DHET, NEMISA and TUT, expert speakers also included representatives from the DCDT, LinkedIn, DPSA, Mindworx Academy, GIZ and Orange Cyberdefence. Key topics covered included:
- Analysis of the current job market demands and the skills needed to thrive.
- Exploration of emerging technologies and their impact on various industries.
- Understanding the significance of micro-credentials and other innovative learning approaches.
The event received positive feedback from attendees. It provided invaluable insights into the future of work and equipped attendees with actionable strategies to navigate career transitions and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Many expressed enthusiasm about leveraging the information gained to make informed career decisions and pursue relevant educational pathways.
